BREWERS BID FOR TAYLOR (29/05/10)
Burton Albion have offered a contract to Cleveland Taylor in a bid
to get him to return to the Pirelli Stadium.
Taylor played 24 games during his loan spell from Brentford and has
now been told he can leave his parent club.
Albion manager Paul Peschisolido was quoted as saying "We started
negotiations and I'm waiting for him to come back to me. He would be
a fantastic acquisition."
It
is believed that there are other clubs competing for the signature
of Cleveland who scored 4 goals during his loan spell, but it is
hoped that the welcome he received from the fans and the signs of
progression at the club will tempt him to sign for the Brewers.

BREWERS LOSE OUT ON KRYSIAK (28/05/10)
Paul
Peschisolido will be looking for a new goalkeeper during the summer
after Artur Krysisak decided to join League One side Exeter City
following his release from Birmingham City.
Artur had been offered a contract to stay with Albion at the end of
his season long loan spell but it was clear that he was holding out
for an offer from a bigger club.
Kevin Poole is set to play on next season but Peschisolido knows
that at 46 years old, the veteran stopper will not be able to play
in all of the games.
Negotiations are already in place to draft in a new goalkeeper with
discussions taking place with three or four players.

END OF AN ERA (10/05/10)
They
will be a very notable absentee from the Burton Albion squad
photograph for the 2010/11 season after it was announced that Darren
Stride won't be offered a new contract.
Paul
Peschisolido sat down with Stride today to tell him that after 650
appearances, his Brewers career was at an end.
Hampered by injuries in recent seasons, Darren made only 11
appearances this season. He did get to fulfil his dream of playing
for Burton Albion in the Football League when he took to the field
at Bournemouth in September. He made another four starts and came
off the bench four times, making his final appearance against Notts
County at the Pirelli Stadium in December. His other outings came in
the Birmingham Senior Cup.
Darren has been an essential figure in the success of the club since
making his debut against Sandwell Borough in 1993. He skippered the
team to the Unibond League title and was at the forefront of the
team that won promotion from the Conference.
Whether Darren will remain at the club in any capacity remains to be
seen, but at 34 years old he may feel that he still has a part to
play on the pitch at another club. After pulling on the amber and
black for 16 years, would he ever be able to pull on the shirt of
another club?
Whatever he decides, he will remain a Brewers legend and CTMD would
like to thank Darren Stride for his contribution towards Burton
Albion Football Club, it's supporters and the local area.

FIVE LEAVE IN END OF SEASON CULL (10/05/10)
It
has been only 48hrs since Burton Albion completed their first very
successful season in the Football League, but manager Paul
Peschisolido has already started his rebuilding of the squad for
next season.
There are no new contracts for Darren Stride, Michael Simpson, Marc
Goodfellow, Romuald Boco and Shaun Kelly.
Simpson, 34, has made more than 100 appearances for the Brewers but
has struggled with injuries this season and made only 19 starts in
the league. Ironically he had returned to his best in Burton's last
few games, reuniting his partnership with John McGrath in the centre
of the Albion midfield.
The
departure of Marc Goodfellow is no surprise though after the player
spent most of the season out on loan at Barrow and Kidderminster
Harriers. He appeared only three times as a substitute in the league
this season and leaves the club just one game short of a century of
appearances.
Boco
and Kelly joined the club towards the end of the season but haven't
shown enough potential to earn a longer spell. Boco joined the club
as an attacking midfielder but ended the season filling in at right
back, whilst Kelly failed to plug the gaps in the leaky defence and
was limited to just two starts.
Aaron Webster has also not been offered a contract for next season
but has been offered the chance to prove himself worthy in
pre-season.

BURTON ALBION 3 GRIMSBY TOWN 0 (08/05/10)
The
Brewers finished the season in style and relegated the Mariners to
the Blue Square Premier in the process.
It
was an afternoon of high emotion and great excitement and it might
have been a different outcome had Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro's cross gone
into the goal rather than bouncing back off the post. The ball was
immediately swept up to the other end of the pitch and Greg Pearson
smashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the Grimsby goal.
Pearson turned provider for the second goal firing in a low cross
which was tucked away by Shaun Harrad from close range.
The
visitors battled to try to retain their league status but were
thwarted by an age defying performance by Kevin Poole. The 46 year
old goalkeeper turned back the clock, pulling off a string of saves.
Shaun Harrad finally broke the visitors resistance with his second
goal just before the hour mark. He converted the free kick that he
won on the edge of the area to make it 3-0.
Pitch invasions by the away fans threatened to spoil the afternoon
but order was maintained long enough for Grimsby's fate to be
confirmed.

MOORE IS MERRIER TO JOIN THE BREWERS (07/05/10)
Burton manager Paul Peschisolido has started to shape his squad for
next season with the capture of Barnsley defender Darren Moore.
Moore, 36, played alongside Pesch at Derby County and has also
played in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion. With more
than 500 senior league appearances and 3 international caps for
Jamaica, Darren could be the man to plug the defensive leaks that
have seen the Brewers ship 71 goals in the league.
Darren is not eligible to play in tomorrows final match at home to
Grimsby Town.

ROCHDALE 1 BURTON ALBION 2 (01/05/10)
The
Brewers spoiled the promotion party at Spotland with a well deserved
win. The home side spurned several chances in the first half and
they were made to pay in the second half.
A
cross from Cleveland Taylor eluded the Dale keeper and sailed into
the net. Steve Kabba was felled in the penalty area just minutes
later and Shaun Harrad converted from the penalty spot to open up a
two goal lead.
The
hosts set up a tense finish when Chris O'Grady pulled a goal back
with ten minutes to go but it was no more than a consolation.

BURTON ALBION 0 AFC BOURNEMOUTH 2 (24/04/10)
The
Brewers' excellent first season in the Football League looks to be
ending on a low after another home defeat.
A
large contingent of Cherries fans made the trip to the Pirelli
Stadium to see their team earn automatic promotion to League One,
thanks to second half goals from Brett Pitman and Alan Connell.
The
match was not a great spectacle, with much of the play contained in
midfield, but the best of the chances were created by the visitors.
Albion's best chance fell to Steve Kabba in the second half, but his
shot from inside the area was well saved by Jalal.

BURTON ALBION 1 BRADFORD CITY 1 (10/04/10)
The
Brewers failed to win in front of their own fans for the sixth
successive game with his draw against struggling Bradford.
Albion should have taken all three points at the Pirelli Stadium for
the first time since the victory against Port Vale on 6th February
but a penalty miss from Greg Pearson and a defensive lapse by Tony
James meant that it needed a late equaliser from Shaun Harrad to
earn a point.

BURY 3 BURTON ALBION 0 (05/04/10)
The
Brewers rounded off a miserable Easter programme with a dismal
defeat at Gigg Lane.
Manager Paul Peschisolido made four changes from the team that lost
to Darlington, bringing in Shaun Kelly, Romuald Boco, Aaron Webster
and Steve Kabba. Tom Parkes, Paul Boertien, Jimmy Phillips and Shaun
Harrad were all relegated to the substitutes bench.
The
changes had the desired effect as Albion created two chances in the
opening minutes, but it was back to the old ways after just 8
minutes. The home side surged forward and David Worrall fired a
hopeful shot into the Albion penalty area where Tony James diverted
the ball into his own net.
The
Brewers rarely threatened to get back into the game but Russell Penn
flashed an occasional effort at Wayne Brown in the Shakers goal.
The
home side doubled their advantage in the 76th minute when a long
clearance from the Bury goalkeeper was misjudged by James and Andy
Morrell nipped in to beat Artur Krysiak to the ball and rolled the
ball into the open net.
Morrell grabbed his second and Bury's third goal in the 86th minute
putting the finishing touch onto Worrall's cross.
Even
a late red card for Michael Jones could not dampen the home sides
spirit as they moved back into the play-off positions while the
Brewers remain in 13th place, but now 10 points off the top 7.

BURTON ALBION 1 DARLINGTON 2 (03/04/10)
The
Brewers joined Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town on the roll of
shame of clubs that have had the double done over them by
Darlington.
The
Quakers have won only six league games all season, and all of their
victories have come against just three teams.
Whilst Albion's defeat at the Northern Echo Arena in November was a
shock, this result is a humiliation and surely ends any faint hopes
of a play-off position.
The
visitors exposed Burton's frail defence twice in the first half to
open up a two goal lead, but it could have been so different but
Greg Pearson saw his effort hit the post after just two minutes.
Darlington took the lead on 22 minutes when a long ball into the
Albion defence caught out Tony James and Joshua Gray was free in the
area to smash home a powerful effort. The visitors went further
ahead in the 32nd minute when Alan White headed in from a corner.
Russell Penn had a header saved by Albion Oldboy Shane Redmond but
the young Irishman was sent the wrong way when Greg Pearson stepped
up to convert the penalty that we won himself when he was brought
down in the area just before half time.
The
Brewers tried to find a way back into the game in the second half
but they had only had two real attempts on goal, Redmond thwarting
both Harrad and substitute Steve Kabba.

GRIMSBY DEFEAT SECURES BREWERS LEAGUE STATUS
(02/04/10)
Burton Albion will definitely be playing in the Football League next
season after defeat for Grimsby Town tonight means the Brewers
cannot finish in the relegation zone.
The
Brewers have currently amassed 54 points this season and the
Mariners defeat against Northampton Town means the maximum number of
points that they can obtain is 52.
Tomorrow's opponents Darlington already look certain to be relegated
with only 19 points from their 36 games played so far. The Quakers
have won only 5 games this season, one of which was against Burton
in November.
