Guy "The Beast" Branston chose to join the
Brewers over fellow promoted side Torquay United.
A vastly experienced defender, Branston started
his career with hometown club Leicester City. He had several loan
spells away from Filbert Street, taking in Rushden & Diamonds,
Colchester United, Plymouth Argyle, Lincoln City and Rotherham
United.
The Millers paid £50,000 to sign Guy on a
permanent basis and he went on to make over 100 appearances.
He went on to become a bit of a journeyman pro,
plying his trade at Wycombe Wanderers, Peterborough United,
Sheffield Wednesday, Oldham Athletic, Rochdale, Northampton Town and
Notts County before arriving at Kettering Town in 2008.
Branston was instrumental in helping the Poppies
achieve the best defensive record in the Blue Square Premier last
season, and it was his tough tackling qualities that persuaded Paul
Peschisolido to sign him as the replacement for Jake Buxton.
