Gresley
RoversNickname: 'Whippets'
Address: Moat Ground, Moat Street, Church Gresley,
Derbyshire, DE11 9RE
Getting There: By Car - From A444, Turn
right onto the A514 (Castle Road) toward Gresley and follow the road up the
hill to the traffic island at the top. Continue on the A514 over the island
and take the second road on the left (School Street), the next left into
Moat Street where the Moat Ground is located.
From A511, At Woodville turn off the A511 onto
the A514 toward Church Gresley, follow the road signs to Gresley, the School
Street turn off is second on the right after the Gresley island. Take the
first turn on the left in School Street to take you to the ground.
Alternatively, just follow the smoke
signals from the burning cars and once in Gresley follow the trail of
Whippet droppings until you reach the Moat Ground.
Parking: There is a car park by the ground
(pictured below)

By Train: Gresley does not have a railway
station. The local anoraks have to go all the way to Burton to get
their fix of locomotive numbers.
The Stadium: Some may
refer to the Moat Ground as being quaint. Others might use the
correct terminology, although we cannot repeat those words on a
family site.
The slope on the Moat Ground pitch (below) has often been cited as
an advantage for the home side.

The club have been hoping to move to a new stadium for several
years. Unfortunately it looks as though the wrecking ball started to
demolish the place before they found out that the plans to move to
an all seated stadium had fallen through.
The land was available but the club could not afford the 3 piece
suite needed to accommodate all of their fans.
The Club: The Whippets have lived in the shadows of their
illustrious neighbours for many years and have shamelessly tried to
emulate the activities over the other side of the Trent.
An unsuccessful attempt to launch the 'Whippets Babes' failed after
the best looking girl in South Derbyshire pulled out at the last
minute. CTMD managed to get a sneak peak at the audition picture
(below);

Places to eat and drink: There is a social
club at the ground which is open to visiting fans. The closest pub
to the ground is the Rising Sun.
The tea bar in the ground does a decent selection
of hot and cold snacks and drinks. They even serve faggots.....(add
your own punch line here!)
Websites:
The official website is probably one
of the best in non-league football and is a credit to the club. It
