Clarence Park
York
Road
St
Albans
Hertfordshire
AL1
4PL
Getting There: From North M1:
Take the M10 exit at junction 7 to St Albans. At end of
motorway take 2nd exit at roundabout onto A405. At next roundabout
turn left onto A1081. Follow road for approx 1 mile until mini
roundabout (Great Northern pub on left). Turn right into Alma Road.
At traffic lights turn right into Victoria Street and continue to
junction with Crown pub. Go straight across into Clarence Road,
ground is first on left about 50 yards past junction or take the
next turning on the left into York Road, ground entrance is at the
end of the road on the left.
Brewers
fan Ian Thurman, who lives near St Albans, suggests an alternative
way of getting to the ground;
'The M1 southbound from before J10 is subject to
a 40mph limit and is very congested even at weekends. An alternative
route if there is congestion is leave at J10 and go through
Harpenden to St Albans. St Albans City Centre is also very congested
and an easy way in (and out) would be to leave the car at Harpenden
station and catch the train to St Albans (5 mins journey, frequent
trains).'
Parking: There is limited parking at the
ground, but there is a large car par at the train station. Cost £1.
By Train: The nearest railway station is St
Albans. It is a 10 minute walk from the ground.
The Stadium: Clarence Park is a ground
probably enjoyed more by the football historians than the true
supporters. The external setting of the ground is impressive,
situated in Clarence Park with the cricket ground on on side and the
park on the other.
Inside is another story, and much of the ground
has not been updated for decades. The old main stand has poor views
due to the many pillars that support it. The terracing is mainly
uncovered, as are the toilets at the away end. Refreshments are
provided by a burger van, which it is rumoured also sells bottled
beer!
Admission Prices: £12 adults with £2
transfer to seating, £7
concessions with £1 transfer to seating, children £4 .
Places to eat and drink: The club house at
the ground is only open to away supporters after the game, so you
will have to seek out one of St Albans' many pubs.
The closest pub is the Crown. A reasonable pub
but if you want better beer and comfort then better to head towards
the town centre. To reach The Crown from the ground, head onto
Clarence Road and then turn right. When you reach the main road turn
left and the Crown is a couple of hundred yards down that road. If
you continue down the road you will also come across the Mermaid
pub.
Websites: There is an official site
www.sacfc.co.uk, this site is
very professional and informative.
Fans: The official site has followed the
lead of CTMD and has used it's female fans to model for the club.
Unfortunately they do not seem to have achieve the same results, as
this picture shows;
