CLUB GUIDE

ALTRINCHAM

Altrincham FC is a club with a proud tradition. They were a renowned giant killer in FA Cup matches, and have probably dumped more Football League clubs out of the competition than any other non-league side. Their greatest claim to fame came back in 1986 when they defeated Birmingham City to reach the fourth round.

The Robin's also reached three FA Trophy finals, lifting the cup on two occasions.

The club's league record is also impressive. Founder members of the Conference, originally called the Alliance Premier, Altrincham finished as champions in the leagues first two seasons. They were ever present in the top division until 1997 when they were relegated back to the Northern League. They gained promotion back to the Conference at the end of last season and are looking to establish themselves as a major non-league force once again.

Getting There:

From South, exit M6 at junction 19 and take A556 towards Manchester Airport. Keep following signs for M56 until you reach a roundabout. Go straight over roundabout following A556 Altrincham (do not take motorway!). At first set of traffic lights turn right onto B5161. Take this road for approx. 1 mile passing Quality Hotel on right hand side. Continue straight through traffic lights and turn right at mini roundabout into Hale Road. After 1 mile, turn left into Westminster Road. Ground is on right after 3/4 mile.

Parking:

Parking at the ground is ticket only, and street parking is very limited. The advice is to park at Blessed Thomas Holford School which is clearly signposted. Parking costs £1.

By Train: Alrtincham is on the Metrolink tram service which can be reached via Manchester Piccadilly train station.

The Stadium:

Moss Lane still has the look and feel of a traditional non-league ground. A small main stand straddles the half way line, with the remainder of the ground a mixture of covered and uncovered terracing. Away fans, predictably are housed in the open Hale End with space for over 1500 supporters.

Admission Prices:

Seating - Adults £14, concessions (U16 & OAP) £8

Terrace - Adults £12, concessions (U16 & OAP) £7

Children under 14 are admitted for £2

Places to eat and drink:

The club bar is located at the rear of the main stand and is accessible from the street. It is not possible to gain admission to the bar once inside the ground.

Websites: The Altrincham official site is regularly updated and is packed with news items and plenty of historical features. The website can be found at http://www.altrinchamfc.co.uk/alty1.htm.
