CTMD view: Possibly one of the greatest
games of football played by the Brewers in recent years. Not many
people could have predicted the final outcome after Aaron Webster
saw red and the resultant penalty made it 3-1 to the visitors.
This Burton Albion team looks to have a new belief
and they battled and scrapped from the kick off to the final
whistle. The problem of scoring goals looks to be solved with five
different players getting on the score sheet already this season.
Things need tightening up defensively as you don't get away with
conceding three goals on too many occasions.
When you realise that the team is still missing
Darren Stride, Ryan Austin and Tony James then there has to be a
belief that this year could see an improvement on last seasons
6th place.
Second place in the table after the first two games
is a fantastic achievement after a tricky pair of fixtures.
Managers view:
Nigel Clough - In an interview with the
official Burton Albion website manager Nigel Clough explained that
he would normally switch to a more defensive 4-4-1 formation when down to
ten but that he instead decided to go with three at the back and
leave two up front in a bid to try and get back into the game.
Clough
went on to say that he felt his team deserved to win the game
although it was with a little bit of fortune after the final goal
came courtesy of a fortunate deflection.
With four
points gained from the first two league games, Clough believes that
the squad has been lifted going into the Oxford
game on Sunday.
Billy McEwan - "I feel for the fans because I
cannot believe we have capitulated like that against ten men. A lot
of young players have had a harsh lesson. I was disappointed with
all the goals we conceded, even if we were a bit unfortunate with a
couple of deflections.
Burton piled on the
pressure, the crowd got excited and naivety and inexperience cost
us. But there can be no excuses for the way we defended. It was
dire."
Fans view:
Shaky (Burton Albion) - Just got back from the
game, what a result and what a performance. I can hardly speak. The
atmosphere was electric at the end, and to watch about 700 York
supporters fall totally silent and start taking down the flags was
priceless.
York did not deserve to win at all, even though the ref had a good
go at giving them the win and we played better when Aaron got sent
off !!
We always looked dangerous coming forward and a little dodgy in
defence, but that was to be expected.
AWESOME, Well done Lads.
