OLD BOYS AIM TO TOPPLE BREWERS (06/12/08)

Burton Albion travel to the New Lawn this afternoon aiming to break a Conference hoodoo and remain at the top of the table.

The Brewers have just one point to show for their six previous visits and that point was deducted by league officials for having an ineligible player in the squad.

This season's visit looks set to be no easier against a Rovers side who are currently occupying a relegation position but are currently in a good run of form in cup competitions. A convincing win against Rochdale in the second round of the FA Cup has set up a rewarding home tie with Derby County in the New Year.

Rovers yesterday announced the signing of Albion Oldboy Lee Ayres from Redditch United, and the defender goes straight into the squad to face his former team. Lee spent two seasons with the Brewers but his spell was hampered by injuries and he managed only 34 appearances. Lee will line up alongside Lee Fowler who spent one season at the Pirelli Stadium before falling out of favour.

AFC TELFORD 3 BURTON ALBION 0 (02/12/08)

"We are concentrating on the league" is the opinion of Burton Albion fans after a meek exit from the Setanta Shield.

A second string Brewers side, including new signing Scott McCubbin, lost to Blue Square North side AFC Telford. Former Albion trialist Danny Carey-Bertram scored goals either side of an Andy Brown penalty.

BREWERS BACK ON TOP (29/11/08)

Burton Albion took advantage of their title rivals involvement in the FA Cup to climb back to the top of the table with a comfortable win against Eastbourne Borough.

The Brewers lost their way in the first half and it looked as though the visitors could an upset in their first ever visit to the Pirelli Stadium. Kevin Poole had to be alert to make a smart save as Boro' launched a rare attack.

The second half saw a return to the passing football that had achieved victory against Stevenage last week and it took less than 10 minutes to force an opening. Shaun Harrad was upended in the area and Greg Pearson stepped up to coolly convert his 11th league goal.

The win was wrapped up just five minutes later when Michael Simpson's free kick was headed in at the far post by Craig Armstrong, making his first start in place of the injured Aaron Webster.

The margin of victory could have been greater but for some desperate last ditch defending from Eastbourne.

Burton now lead the Blue Square Premier by three points from Histon in second place, but the Stutes do have two games in hand.

LATEST TRANSFER NEWS (28/11/08)

Nigel Clough's hopes of strengthening the squad before the loan window closed were dealt a blow as deals to bring in new players fell through.

There was confirmation that Paris Simmons is extending his loan spell from Derby County until January 1st and that reserve striker James Knowles was joining Grantham Town on loan for a month.

There will be one new face at the Pirelli Stadium after it was announced that Scott McCubbin would be joining the club on non-contract terms while he studies at Nottingham University. McCubbin, 23, started his career as a youth player at Chelsea before dropping in non-league football.

HOME DRAW FOR BREWERS IN FA TROPHY (24/11/08)

The draw for the first round proper of the FA Trophy has been made and the Brewers have been handed a home tie against Farsley Celtic.

Celtic are currently in 8th place in the Conference North and will pose a tricky test for Burton, who have twice lost to lower placed opposition in this competition at an early stage in the last three seasons.

Albion Oldboy Jamie Price looks set for a return to the Pirelli Stadium after joining the Celts in the summer from Harrogate Town.

BURTON ALBION 2 STEVENAGE BOROUGH 0 (22/11/08)

There may be a new 'Captain Fantastic' at the Pirelli Stadium after Michael Simpson put in a man of the match performance as the Brewers kept up their title challenge.

Simpson scored his first ever goal for the club to give Burton a first half lead, and incredibly he got on the scoresheet again in the second half to make sure of all three points.

The visitors did give the home fans a few nervous moments with a goal disallowed for offside and a late missed penalty from Morrison.

BIRMINGHAM SENIOR CUP DRAW (21/11/08)

The draw for the quarter-finals of the Birmingham Senior Cup has been made and the Brewers will make the short trip to The Lamb to take on Tamworth.

No date has yet been arranged for the game, but all ties at this stage of the competition must be completed by January 10th.

The two sides met twice in cup competitions last season, with the Lambs beaten in both the FA Cup and Setanta Shield.

ARMSTRONG MAKES GIANT LEAP TO BREWERS (20/11/08)

Burton Albion have signed Cheltenham Town utility player Craig Armstrong on a two month loan.

The 33 year old started his career at Nottingham Forest, making 49 appearances for the City Ground club before moving to Huddersfield Town for £750k. In between he had loan spells at Burnley, Bristol Rovers, Gillingham and Watford.

A £100k move to Sheffield Wednesday was followed by spells at Grimsby Town (loan), Bradford City, Cheltenham Town and Gillingham before returning to Whaddon Road in February 2008.

Paperwork permitting, Craig will be eligible to make his debut on Saturday when the Brewers host Stevenage Borough in the Blue Square Premier.

NORTHWICH VICTORIA 0 BURTON ALBION 1 (08/11/08)

Burton Albion sit proudly at the top of the Blue Square Premier table for the very first time thanks to Shaun Harrad's goal at the Marston's Arena.

Harrad struck after 19 minutes but the Brewers could not increase their advantage and were made to fight all the way by Northwich players keen to impress their new manager.

The home side saw several efforts saved by Kevin Poole and had an effort cleared off the line but could not just find the finish needed to snatch a point.

SETANTA SHIELD DRAW ANNOUNCED (06/11/08)

Burton Albion face a tricky trip to the New Bucks Head Stadium to face AFC Telford United in the fourth round of the Setanta Shield.

The match will take place on Tuesday 2nd December. It has also been announced that the away league fixture at Mansfield Town has been put back by 24 hours and will now be played on Monday 29th December with a 7:45pm kick off.

BURTON ALBION 3 KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS 2 (04/11/08)

Jody Banim's first goal for the club put the Brewers through to the fourth round of the Setanta Shield.

Banim curled in a spectacular free kick with five minutes to go with the match looking as if it was going to extra time at a foggy Pirelli Stadium.

Shaun Harrad headed Burton into a sixth minute lead before the visitors pulled two goals back before half time.

Ryan Austin scored the equaliser at the start of the second half and both sides played their part in an entertaining game before Banim's strike settled the contest.

BURTON ALBION 3 EBBSFLEET UNITED 1 (01/11/08)

The Brewers got back to winning ways and moved up to fourth place in the table thanks to goals from Aaron Webster and Keith Gilroy.

Nigel Clough rang the changes to the starting line up following the FA Cup exit at Kettering with Tony James, Jon Newby Keith Gilroy and loan signing Paris Simmons coming in.

Burton went on the attack straight from the kick off and scored the opening goal after just 3 minutes, Webster heading in from Gilroy's cross.

Gilroy got himself on the team sheet after Simmons saw his effort cannon back off the crossbar and the Irishman tapped in the rebound.

Kezie Ibe pulled one back for the visitors before Gilroy and Webster combined again for the third goal. Ebbsfleet's misery was completed in the final minute when Mark Ricketts was shown a straight red card for foul and abusive language.
