BURTON ALBION 0 SOUTHPORT 1 (28/08/06)
Once again the Brewers fail to beat lower placed
opposition at home as they went down to a single goal defeat.
The visitors offered very little as an attacking
force, and looked every bit a side happy to go away with a point.
Mark Boyd's wonder strike gave them all three points, leaving Burton
without a win in three home games.

BREWERS v SOUTHPORT PREVIEW
(27/08/06)
 The
hectic August schedule draws to a close with the visit of struggling
Southport to the Pirelli Stadium. Both teams will be looking to kick
start their respective seasons, the Brewers looking for a first home
victory, and Southport just looking for a first win.
CTMD examines the form of the two teams
going into this game, and looks back at some of the previous
meetings.

PLAYER
OF THE SEASON UPDATE
(26/08/06)
The results for the first three games
of the season are now in, and the early leader in the race for the
player of the season award is Lee Fowler.
The midfielder has certainly made a big
impact since joining the Brewers from Scarborough in the summer, and
picked up the plaudits for his performance against Oxford United.
The latest results and the current
leader board can be seen HERE.

YORK CITY 3 BURTON ALBION 2
(25/08/06)
The Brewers suffered late heartbreak
again after Nathan Peat's 89th minute free kick secured all three
points for the home side.
Twice the Brewers came from a goal
behind to level the scores, but Ryan Austin was red carded for a
professional foul and the punishment was made even worse as the
winning goal was scored from the resulting free kick.

POOLE SET TO CONTINUE FOR ALBION
(22/08/06)
It now seems likely that the Brewers
will have to continue to rely on 43 year old goalkeeper Kevin Poole
for the foreseeable future, with the deal to bring in Crewe stopper
Stuart Tomlinson now looking unlikely.
It was originally hoped that Tomlinson
would join Burton Albion on a season long loan, however Dario Gradi
has been unsuccessful in his attempts to find another keeper and has
been unable to release him. After being on the bench for Crewe's
first three league games, Tomlinson was in the starting line-up for
the Carling Cup game at Grimsby, keeping a clean sheet as the
Railwaymen won 3-0.
Kevin Poole has been in good form since
joining the Brewers and his extended period in the Albion goal
should not pose any problems.

MORECAMBE MAN OF THE MATCH RESULT
(20/08/06)
The
race to try and replace Darren Tinson as the holder of the CTMD
player of the season trophy has already started, and Gary Rowett is
currently in pole position.
Gary was the clear winner of the man of
the match award for the opening league game at Morecambe. New
signing Lee Fowler was voted as the runner up.
The results will be added up throughout
the season, with the winner receiving the much coveted trophy.

BURTON ALBION 1 OXFORD UNITED 2
(18/08/06)
A late penalty for the visitors was a
cruel blow to the Brewers as they put up a great performance against
the title favourites.
Daryl Clare opened the scoring after 15
minutes, and the lead was held for an hour until Robert Duffy
equalised with the first of his two goals. With four minutes to go,
Darren Tinson fouled Odubade in the area and Duffy netted from the
spot.
Despite the loss, Albion fans should be
proud of the players after an excellent performance.

JON
SHAW, OUT THE DOOR?
(18/08/06)
Striker Jon Shaw could be heading out
of the Pirelli Stadium following a rumoured bust up with manager
Nigel Clough.
Shaw, Burton's top goal scorer last
season, is unhappy at losing his place in the Albion starting
line-up and is believed to have voiced his concerns.
Never one to tolerate criticism, Clough
has made Shaw available for loan with Cambridge United keen to take
him.
Jon was an unused substitute for the
game against Oxford United, with Steve Scoffham being bought on to
replace Andy Ducros in the second half.

TINSON PICKS UP PLAYER OF THE SEASON
AWARD (16/08/06)
Darren Tinson was awarded with the
Clough The Magic Dragon player of the season award ahead of the
match against Kidderminster on Tuesday night.
Darren was delighted to have won the
award in his first season with the Brewers, following on from
previous winners Aaron Webster and Chris Hall. Darren is pictured
here with the trophy;

Don't forget to add your votes towards
the 2006/07 player of the season award by visiting the CTMD message
board. A poll will be available for every Albion 1st team game for
you to name the player you feel is man of the match. Votes will be

after the final game.

BURTON ALBION 1 KIDDERMINSTER
HARRIERS 1 (15/08/06)
It
is now seven years since the Brewers won their opening home league
game of the season. Whoever broke that mirror will be hiding
somewhere to escape the frustrated fans who saw their team throw
away the lead to draw with Kidderminster.
Daryl Clare scored the opening goal in
first half injury time, but an equaliser from Russel Penn earned a
share of the points.

MORECAMBE 0 BURTON ALBION 1
(12/08/06)
A penalty from Aaron Webster gave the
Brewers their first ever Conference win over Morecambe.
The game was a cagey affair with not
too many chances for either side, but the decisive moment came as
the ball was handled in the area by Brannan as he tried to stop Andy
Ducros. Webster made no mistake from 12 yards to send the players
and fans into ecstatic celebrations.
The Brewers are in action again on
Tuesday night when they make their first home appearance of the
season against Kidderminster Harriers.

BREWERS
DIVE IN FOR POOLE (11/08/06)
Burton Albion will have a 43 year old
goalkeeper in the starting line up for tomorrow's opening Conference
game at Morecambe, after signing Kevin Poole on a match by match
basis.
After Crewe Alexandra announced they
would not be able to release Stuart Tomlinson to start his season
long loan, Burton manager Nigel Clough was left with coach Martin
Taylor as the only recognised keeper in the squad.
Kevin Poole, currently a coach with
Birmingham City's academy side, has not played a competitive match
since January. He made 7 appearances for Derby County last season,
and has made a total of 373 appearances during his 25 year career to
date.

BURTON ALBION 0 ALFRETON TOWN 1
(08/08/06)
A Brewers team consisting mainly of
reserve and youth players went down to a single goal defeat to
Nationwide North side Alfreton Town.
Whilst the result is rather immaterial,
the big concern from the game will be the injury picked up by Oliver
Hancock. The youth team player had to be carried from the field on a
stretcher in the second half.
Team: Holton, Clough, Brayford,
Shaw, Henshaw, Gilroy, McMahon, Holmes, Britton, Harrad, Scoffham
Subs: Gutteridge, Waite, Hancock, Liversedge, Edwards

HINCKLEY UNITED 1 BURTON ALBION 1
(05/08/06)
Burton came from behind to produce a
hard fought draw against Hinckley United at the Marston's Stadium.
Leon Kelly put the home side ahead
after just six minutes, but Daryl Clare grabbed his fourth
pre-season goal immediately at the start of the second half.
The game came at quite a cost, as Gary
Rowett, Daryl Clare and Darren Stride all had to be substituted due
to injury.

ALBION TRIUMPH IN VASE FINAL
(03/08/06)
The Brewers defeated a young Nottingham
Forest side by two goals to one to finally get their hands on the
Bass Vase.
The silverware had not stayed in Burton
since 1997, and after four successive final defeats, Nigel Clough
finally managed to see his team win.
Keith Gilroy opened the scoring, but
Spencer Weir-Daley equalised almost immediately. The game looked to
be heading for penalties, but a Daryl Clare penalty five minutes
from the end secured the victory.

BREWERS FACE FOREST IN BASS VASE
FINAL (03/08/06)
Burton Albion will tonight compete in
their fifth successive Bass Vase final against a Nottingham Forest
reserve side.
The Coca Cola League season kicks off
on Saturday and so the Reds will not risk any of their big name
players, however the young Forest team have already beaten Gresley
Rovers 6-2 and Notts County 2-0 to progress to the final.
Burton Albion have lost all of the last
4 finals in which they have appeared and will be looking to pick up
their second piece of silverware following the capture of the
Friendship Cup at Rocester on Saturday.

KEEPER SCARE FOR BREWERS
(02/08/06)
Stuart
Tomlinson's loan move may be in doubt after Crewe first choice
keeper Ben Williams suffered an injury with the new season just two
days away.
Tomlinson was due to move to the
Pirelli Stadium on a season long loan, however Dario Gradi has
failed so far in his search for a replacement keeper and may now
decide to call off the move.
Albion fans will now be hoping that
Stuart will be available for the Bass Vase Final on Thursday night.

ANOTHER
FRIENDLY ARRANGED (01/08/06)
Nigel Clough has arranged a friendly
against Alfreton Town just four days before the start of the new
season, and the game should give him a chance to finalise his team
and tactics ahead of the Conference opener against Morecambe.
Gary Mill's side will visit the Pirelli
Stadium on Tuesday 8th August, and prices have been reduced to try
and attract a good crowd. Adult admission is £5 whilst kids will get
to see the game for £3.
