After being released by
Peterborough United, Paul signed for Burscough but was immediately
loaned out to the Brewers as a loophole in the transfer window was
utilised to good effect.
Although signed just in time
to make his debut, Paul was no stranger to the Burton players as he
had faced them twice during the previous season in the FA Cup.
Despite the setback of losing to the Brewers, it was overall a good
season for Paul at London Road. He picked up the player of the
season award, but a change of management in the summer saw him fall
out of favour after just three games.
A vastly experienced player,
Paul had made over 300 first team appearances in a career that had
seen him play for Blackpool, Rochdale, Chester, Doncaster and
Peterborough.
He added some much needed
experience and creativity to the Albion midfield and he was seen as
one of the players that the squad would be built around for the
following season. However despite being offered a new contract, Paul
opted instead to sign for Accrington Stanley in order to be closer
to his family in the North West.
