If ever
there was an example of how loan signings rarely work out at Burton
Albion, then Lee Camp would be the best. A player who since leaving
the Brewers has gone on to establish himself as first choice keeper
for both Derby County and England U21 was responsible for some
shocking performances.
He was
quickly drafted into the squad after Matt Duke suffered a broken arm
and Dan Robinson was sent off in his first league appearance,
leaving the Brewers with no goalkeeper. Camp's first appearance saw
him drop a clanger away at Wakefield and Emley in the FA Trophy
which resulted in a rather embarrassing 1-0 defeat. He was never on
the winning side during his entire spell at Eton Park, and will
probably rather forget the seven goals he conceded in the bizarre
game against Telford.
Thankfully, 'Dukey' recovered after only 8 games out of the team and
Lee was sent back to Pride Park.
He
remained on the fringes of the Derby squad but spent a more
successful spell on loan at QPR the following season, helping them
to promotion to Division One. |
