PROUD!

The dream of league football may be over for another year, but the fans, players and management of Burton Albion FC can be immensely proud of the most successful season in the club's history.

Forget about the controversies of the first semi-final match, the idiot referee and his incompetent assistants and remember the amazing 46 matches that got us to the play-offs for the first time.

We may now all be planning routes to Wrexham rather than Wembley, but we now have the taste of success in our mouths and we will bounce back stronger and even better.

The tears of disappointment will turn to ones of pride when we salute our heroes for their valiant efforts.

Good luck to Cambridge United and Exeter City in the play-off final on May 18th. (although I think Cambridge have exhausted their quota of luck already!)

BURTON ALBION 2 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 2 (02/05/08)

It's all to play for at the Trade Recruitment Stadium on Tuesday night after a thrilling roller coaster of a game ended all square.

There were four goals, two penalties, two disallowed goals, a flurry of yellow cards and a near sell out crowd at the Pirelli Stadium as the two sides battled for a place at Wembley on May 18th.

Unfortunately amid all the action it was the referee that wanted to be the centre of attention. In a era of reality TV shows, Mr Hooper obviously decided that he wanted to wanted to star in his own prime time show. It is easy to be bitter about losing a two goal lead, but if anyone other than the bumpkin from Swindon can explain just how Paul Hurst could have prevented the ball hitting his arm then please e-mail me. Any clues on why John Brayford and Daryl Clare had seemingly good goals chalked off would also be appreciated.

After playing 46 games to get to the play-offs it is sad that a man that has probably never played a game in his life can have so much influence over the result.

With no away goals rule in the semi-finals it now means that it is winner takes all in the second leg. Referee aside there was nothing on show tonight from the visitors to suggest that the Brewers cannot triumph and make it to the final in 16 days time.
